Sapa calls you with the sound of the wind, the smell of smoke, and the heartbeat of the mountains and forests, doesn’t call you with noise or crowds.
It whispers through the wind, the scent of woodsmoke, and the heartbeat of the mountains.
In a land where the clouds rest on the shoulders of the peaks, and Hmong people still light their stoves with firewood, Sapa is not just a destination — it’s another world. A place that asks you to slow down, breathe deeply, and open your heart to stories no guidebook could tell.

I am Ly A Pao, a Black Hmong born among terraced rice fields, raised in the misty highlands of Sapa.
I’m not just a tour guide — I tell the story of Sapa through the eyes and heart of a local. I don’t guide you to “check-in,” I guide you to feel the soul of Sapa — through your steps across villages, meals with Hmong, Dao, and Giáy families, the sound of the khen flute in a love market night, and the lingering scent of corn wine on your sleeves.
If you’re tired of the city and need a place to truly breathe, then Sapa is your healing escape.
Who Is Ly A Pao?
Ly A Pao I’m a proud member of the Black Hmong ethnic group, born and raised in Ban Ho Village, deep in the mountains of Sapa, Vietnam.
I grew up in a large farming family with 11 siblings, where life was tough—we had little food, no warm clothes, and no shoes. But even during those difficult times, I had a dream: to study hard, support my family, and change our future.
I completed my education in Legal Studies at a vocational school in Lao Cai City and worked for a short time at the Ban Ho Commune Office. However, I couldn’t afford university. So, I made a bold decision — I moved to Sapa town to start from scratch.
The Journey from Hotel Cleaner to Travel Expert
I began working as a hotel cleaner, and during the day, I taught myself English. For 3 years, I slept only two hours per night, working and studying non-stop. My hard work paid off, and I eventually became a receptionist at a 5-star hotel in Sapa.
But I knew I wanted to do more — to use my background and voice to show the world the real Sapa.
That’s when I decided to become a local trekking guide, taking travelers through rice terraces, ethnic minority villages, and the breathtaking landscapes of my homeland.
Sharing the True Soul of Sapa
As your guide, I don’t just show you the views — I invite you to experience our way of life. You’ll learn about:
- Traditional Hmong culture
- Local food and customs
- Village life and farming traditions
- Our connection with the land and community
Every tour is personal. I share real stories, answer your questions, and offer insights you won’t find in guidebooks.

What Makes Ly A Pao Different from Other Guides?
1. Not just a tour — A path to Sapa’s soul
Unlike many guides who take you to see, Pao guides you to feel.
He doesn’t just point out sights — he tells you the stories behind every slope, rooftop, rice field, and way of life.
Pao’s tours are about genuine encounters. You don’t just learn the culture — you live it.
2. Born and raised in Sapa – knowledge flows like blood

While others work in Sapa, Pao is Sapa.
Born in Ban Ho village, he speaks Hmong like a lullaby and Vietnamese like a storyteller.
He knows Sapa inside out — from the birds’ songs in spring to the exact corner of his father’s rice field.
Walking with Pao is walking with a part of the mountains — not an outsider telling stories, but someone living them.
3. Live with locals – not just pass by
Forget cookie-cutter hotel tours.
Pao’s journeys immerse you in real village life — eating home-cooked meals, sleeping in earth houses, staying with real families.
You’re invited to a home where a firewood stove glows, eating black chicken his mother just prepared, drinking corn wine with a Dao elder who shares ghost stories in the flickering firelight.

4. Guided by heart – not by script
SapaLocalGuide offers professionalism. Lyapao.com brings soulful storytelling.
Ly A Pao merges both — experienced and deeply human.
His tours are personalized for each guest: by season, harvest time, flower blooming, or your own preferences — light walks or simply sipping tea while watching clouds roll by.
With Pao, you’re not a “client” — you’re a friend being welcomed home.
5. A voice from the ethnic communities – not about them
Many guides talk about ethnic people like an exhibit.
Pao speaks as one of them — telling his own story, naturally, with no sugarcoating.
Not “Kinh people talking about Hmong,” but Hmong people telling their own truth.
